Dushanbe Model United Nations (DMUN) is a Model UN initiative based in Dushanbe, giving young people a formal setting to debate, negotiate and draft resolutions.
Our purpose
Why the conference exists
DMUN exists to give young people in Dushanbe a serious setting in which to practise international negotiation. Delegates do not give presentations; they hold the floor, yield to questions, form blocs, and put text to a vote.
The format is deliberately demanding. Each committee follows formal rules of procedure, chaired by a dais that keeps debate on the point at hand. What delegates take away is transferable: the ability to research quickly, write precisely and argue in public.
DMUN is an independent educational initiative and is not affiliated with or officially representing the United Nations.
Principles
How we run committee
These principles apply to every session, every committee and every delegate.
Procedure before personality
Debate is governed by rules, not volume. The dais applies procedure consistently to every delegation.
Evidence over assertion
Delegates are expected to ground positions in documents, data and the actual policy of the state they represent.
Open to newcomers
First-time delegates receive training materials and support so a lack of experience is never a barrier.
Respect in disagreement
Delegates argue positions, never attack people. Conduct expectations apply equally inside and outside committee.
